Five Low or No-Cost Activities to Keep The Kids Entertained This Easter
Easter is a great time of year. Lots of chocolate, the weather gets milder and spring is in the air! As a parent, it can be a challenge however. There’s childcare to consider (if you are working), entertaining the children, activities, and days out. If you are on budget then it doesn’t seem that easy; in fact it can be downright expensive and stressful! But you don’t always have to spend a lot to have great time. We’ve managed to find five low-cost (and even no-cost) ways to keep your kids active this Easter break:
1. Egg Decorating Competition (suits all ages)
Egg Decorating is great fun activity which entertains the children keeping them busy for hours and teaching them a little about Easter and spring. Just use hard boiled eggs/ Ping Pong balls, paints & anything that’s easily available for decoration. Leading online bingo reviews site, Bingo-Reviewer have teamed up with Sea Life, to give away 3 FREE family passes to any of the UK Sea Life centers in their egg decorating competition.
All you have to do is decorate a “turtle egg” (More info: Bingo Reviewer supports the Turtle Hospital) and upload the picture to Bingo-Reviewer site. As well as providing a fun activity with a great prize, the competition aims to generate awareness about the fantastic cause supported by SeaLife to build a turtle rescue hospital, in partnership with NGO group Earth Sea & Sky in Agios Sostis, Greece.
2. Murder Mystery Game (for unruly teens)!
Do you have teenagers to entertain? This can be slightly more stressful, and almost everything they want to do seems to cost money, but there are ways to keep them busy. Want to try something adventurous? A downloadable murder mystery game is a great group activity for teens. It will keep them occupied for hours, encourage creativity and give them something constructive to do with their friends. You can buy games online for groups of six or more and at under £20 for the whole game – that’s less than a single entry ticket to most theme parks! We love Farthingay Manor, by Murder Mystery Games!
3. Easter Egg Hunt (tots to young teens)
The Easter holiday is not complete without the staple Easter Egg Hunt. Its great because in the “Egg Hunt” the whole family from toddlers to adults can be involved. Do it in the garden or indoors!
You need: Chocolate Easter Eggs in various sizes, baskets, some decorative materials, most of these can be bought from your supermarket, no special items/shops needed. Oh yes, you need lots of hiding places!
It’s such a fun activity hiding the eggs and then seeing kids find them. Just make sure that all the hiding places are safe for kids.
4. Museums (all ages dependent on exhibit)
Almost all towns and cities have local museums and all are free to attend (though some Museums may have special exhibits that you can choose to pay for, in addition to the free regular exhibits.) Many will be running special activities and events designed to offer something more for the youngsters during the holiday break. If you are keen to keep the spend to a minimum we would recommend taking your own packed lunch and refreshments, as Museums tend to price-up food and refreshments to supplement their income given that the main exhibits are free.
If you’re not sure where to start check out http://www.museums.co.uk/ which you can search to find suitable museums in your local area.
5. Science Centres (junior to teens)
Not every city or town will have them, but if you are lucky enough to have a science centre nearby or in a city where you can make a day trip, this is a great, educational day out. Plus this is a perfect option to keep in reserve for a cool or rainy day.
Kids love seeing inventions, experiments, and interactive exhibits; and again like all national Museums. Find the ones nearer to you by going the website below

We hope these ideas will help you entertain the kids without spending too much and still have loads of fun!!
