Top wines are under threat thanks to global warming, according to experts.

The rise in temperatures means that some wine growing regions may become unsuitable for growing grapes by 2050. Areas that are under threat include Lafite, Petrus and Latour. Some wine growers are already so concerned about the change in climate that they have changed to heat-resistant grapes already.

Higher temperatures mean that grapes ripen earlier and causes summer droughts.

Some grape growers have commented that they have seen unusual patterns for the past three decades – much earlier than all the climate change debate over the past decade.

However it isn’t all bad news – some colder climates which are currently not suitable for growing grapes could benefit from the rising temperatures. This means that whilst traditional wine regions may not be able to produce their wines any more, new wine regions may well spring up in their place.
