How to recycle a mobile phoneThere are five simple steps to recycling your old mobile phone handsets.

1. Find your old mobile phone or tablet
Find your old mobile phone handsets and tablets. Usually, it won’t matter what network the gadget was connected to.

2. Check if your device can be recycled
You can check here to see whether anyone is prepared to recycle your own mobile phone or tablet and how much they are prepared to pay for it.

Often, the amount a company is willing to pay for your device will depend on it’s condition. This will be checked when it is received so be realistic about how good a condition your handset is in.

3. Remove personal data
Remove all personal data from your device. Remove sims and/or memory cards. If you do accidentally send a sim or memory card, they will normally be destroyed and cannot be sent back to you. Check the terms and conditions of the mobile phone recycler as they may require you to charge your device prior to you posting it.

4. Post your mobile phone
Post your mobile phone to your chosen recycler. Most of the time it will be free to post. It is worth sending any high value items by registered post so you are covered if it goes missing.

5. Get paid!
Once your mobile phone has been processed your money will be sent to you – either my direct transfer into your bank account or by cheque.
