This season, bright colours are in. So if you are looking to redecorate your home choose bright, vibrant colours to inject some life into your property.

Different colours will affect your mood and emotions in different ways so it is important to choose colours that you are naturally in tune with and will help produce the look and feel you are after.

Reddish colours such as red, orange and yellow are stimulating colours and work well in busy places such as the kitchen.

Blueish colours such as blue, lilac and mauve are calming and soothing colours and are a great choice for bedrooms or places where you want to relax.

It is important to choose colours that you like and most people tend to gravitate to certain colours. Look around at your home and your possessions – you might find a particular area of the palette that features more strongly than other areas.

If you are going to be painting a wall, do a swatch test first. Colour will change during the day as the light changes so it is worth painting a swatch in the room you want to paint to ensure that you are happy with the colour throughout the day. Swatches are also a great idea if you aren’t sure what colour or shade to paint a room.

If you don’t want to do something as extreme as painting a wall, you can accessorise a room easily. For kitchens, you can get coloured applicances, small electrical items and ornaments such as vases. For other rooms you could consider brightly coloured scatter cushions, rugs and pictures.
